 | The house was presented to the City in 1946 by William Barnett. Leased to the National Trust in the early 1970s, many visitors have fond memories spent in the house and grounds. It was almost totally destroyed by fire in 1976 but in the years 1980-1983 the house was rebuilt by Belfast City Council and re-opened in June 1983.
Since then Malone house has been used by the public for a wide range of functions, from conferences to social events, and from July 1992 for wedding receptions.
The estate’s 400 year history is remembered in the names of the rooms.
